RETIRO POND (Estanque del Retiro) - a
large beautiful man-made pond located in northern entrance of the first biggest park of Madrid city, the Buen Retiro Park ("Park of
the Pleasant Retreat"). The pond is similar to New York’s Central Park
pond. It is home of large koi fish,
turtle, white ducks, and black swans. On
the eastern edge of Retiro’s Pond is a grand statute of King Alfonso Xll, featuring
a semicircular colonnade and an equestrian statue of the monarch on the top of
a tall central core". Visitors
usually strolling by, huddle near the surface along the pond’s wall or just
standing at the pond’s edge.
